The studio is located in an existing basement space, below the pool deck of the house it serves. Daylight and spatial clarity were major concerns for the layout. The new window overlooks the back lots and sound stages of Studio City movie studios. Finishes of light-colored wood and fabrics relate to the décor of the main house, and answer the owner’s request for a workspace with a residential feel. The composing and editing room also serves as the control room for a recording booth in the front. The built-in equipment desk is on an axis with the window in the booth, and the separating sliding doors are fully glazed.
